Week 3: January 23 - 27

January 23, 2017

The deadline for the Paperless Post client is coming up soon, so I am still conducting research on blogs. It seems to be becoming a little harder to find resources of blog names that I don't already have for wedding and lifestyle blogs. A lot of the popular ones have already been written down in the master post, so now I'm starting to search for the lesser known blogs.

I found 42 blogs today, but 9 of them have a page authority lower than 30 or no email address, meaning that they are not of use to us or our client.

I worked today with Jodie on the sales process. She started by having me work on their one-sheets for clients, which is a new part of their sales process. These one sheets explain to clients how much profit they can get by optimizing their results for a specific key term. It is a personalized document, so we work with their average totals spent on their website along with the search volume of that key term to generate an estimation of how much more they can get with a higher ranking in that key term.

Jodie then had me work on a spreadsheet in which I started to collect information from previous leads. I was putting emails, top keyword options, company names, and estimations for generated revenue into this sheet. This is to help with a new automated follow-up system that they are trying to put into place.

After that, she had me complete follow-up emails for some clients that had yet to open their emails and needed a second or third follow up response.

January 27, 2017

I started today by searching for new contact information for potential leads. I found 31 new emails and names for these open leads.

Jodie also had me follow-up with the one sheet assignment that I started on Wednesday. I sent the created one sheets to the clients that I made them for.

I then worked on finding other SEO companies for a master list. These contacts will be used for new sales leads. Jodie also had me look at general leads whose contact was the "Head of Search" at their company.

Towards the end of the day, Jodie had me work on a competitive analysis for a potential client, where we recorded the Page and Domain Authorities of the top five rankings under certain keyword searches. We also did this for related search questions in regard to the "featured" search result under certain question searches.

Week 2: January 16 - 20

January 16, 2017

I completed more blog research.

I found 20 lifestyle/wedding blogs. Only 1 does not have an email, meaning that there is only one that cannot be contacted currently. This is all for the client Paperless Post.

Kellee Maize also asked me to help with the another client comp analysis, by doing blog research for that specific client. The client is Decker, an adult swim TV show. I was asked to look for blogs that discuss this show using these keywords:
  • Eric and tim awesome show
  • Decker (the show)
  • Decker unclassified (the show)
  • Tim heidecker
  • gregg turkington
  • Absolutely productions
  • Neil hamburger
  • On cinema
  • Absolutely productions
  • New shows on adult swim
  • Eric wareheim
  • Spy comedy tv show
  • Comedies (so like any comedy blogs - not by a comedian but that talk about comedy)

I found around 31 posts regarding the keywords up to Gregg Turkington on the list.

January 18, 2017

I found a total of:

40 Wedding blogs

For our purposes, only 38 will be usable. One of the forty is missing an email address so they will need to be looked into further. The other of the forty that we can't currently use has a page authority below 30 meaning that they are not useful for the job yet.

I also found out that an extension that is frequently used in blog research will not be able to be downloaded to my computer so I will have to look into similar "No Follow" extensions.

January 20, 2017

I started today by researching a working "No Follow" extension for my Macbook. This extension allows us to see whether blogs enter keywords or links as "No Follow" meaning that the posts will not help with what we are trying to do (which is boost our client's name/link in search results.)

I found a total of:

34 Lifestyle blogs

12 Event Planning blogs

4 Wedding blogs

For our purposes, only 35 will be usable. 15 of the blogs either have no emails or their page authority is below thirty, so they will not be able to help boost our client's ranking in the search results. I did reach out to two pages via Facebook to try and retrieve their emails, and I heard back from one of them.

This blogger research has been the most pressing issue because our sales team has had trouble with some of the bloggers contacted. Our deadline for having bloggers for this client is the end of the month, which is rapidly approaching, so searching for usable bloggers is crucial.

Week 1: January 9 - 13

January 9, 2017

Today we started with training on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). One of the workers Liz discussed training for SEO Rush and how they begin the process for the cold emails to potential clients for their SEO work.

We went through a sample of competitive analysis using Google Sheets and Moz, in order to determine page authority and domain authority for Bebe au Lait, a maternity boutique.

Today Jodie went over the process for sending follow up emails in the sales funnel for clients. She discussed the differences between sending a follow up to someone who opened the initial email vs. sending a follow up to someone who had not opened the initial email (which you can see in Gmail through a Google Chrome extension called Wizy).

She also explained how to organize where you are in the process with each potential client on Prosperworks and how to operate it through Gmail.

I spent about 2-3 hours completing and sending follow up emails to clients as well as filling in some information on the Google sheet that I started on Monday.

January 13, 2017

Today Kayla trained me to search for lifestyle and crafting blogs. I spent my time from 9 am to 1 pm working on searching for blogs and entering them into the master data base of bloggers. This is used for the promotion of client's links in order to boost where they end up in Google Search results.

I found a total of:
Crafting/Lifestyle Blogs: 30
Blogs that can be contacted (meaning they have an email and a Page Authority that is over thirty: 23

Liz showed me how to create an SEO Tutorial for a client. I completed one for Nested Bean. This is to show clients what Nakturnal can do to optimize their search results. It includes competitive analysis.

I also updated my competitive analysis links from Monday.
